PR Profile: Neil Hawkins

Reason for joining PR?

After struggling to train on my own for the GNR in 2018 I decided I needed some motivation to keep training as I got to my mid fifties …. and PR does that in buckets full with a great deal of friendship and inspirational people.

How long have you been at PR?

About 2 years

What do you enjoy most about PR?

Giving me the reason to do that hardest part of training…. Putting the running gear on and getting out the door !

I also love the fact that you can push yourself by always seeing someone in front to catch or try to keep ahead of hearing someone catching you up (hate getting passed !)

What is your best achievement since joining PR?

(I haven’t done anything competitive or done any races since joining so something a bit different)

Getting support for PR to have immediate access to a Defibrillator at every session and providing awareness training to some willing volunteers.

What is your Favourite session?

Anything with relays or a mini competition where we can encourage others.

What is your Favourite meal?

Steak

What is your Favourite drink?

Can’t pick one…depends on time of day. Yorkshire Tea, Draught Real Ale, Red wine (rarely drink a spirit, unless challenged)

What is your Favourite holiday destination?

Went to compete in a sailing competition in Barbados in 2016 – loved the place and the culture but anywhere with water or snow…skiing holidays are a passion.

What is your Favourite song or artist?

Very very wide musical taste but I guess Queen were an ever present through the years. Lucky to have seen them live in 1986.

What makes you laugh the most ?

Comedy clips on YouTube like ‘Carrot in a Box’ (never seen it – Find it !)
